RHEL Installation


Hi,
This post will guide you through the process to install RHEL on your PC/Laptop in a very simple way.
Before proceeding would like you to download RHEL from their official website. And make a bootable CD/DVD/Pen Drive for installing it.  All versions of RHEL more or less follows the same installation methodology. Here I have used RHEL 7.1 Workstation for demo purpose.
The post contains many pictures to guide you through the process.
The post is long to scroll but its good to learn.

Let’s Begin

  1. Boot up the system and enter Boot Settings Menu by pressing “ESC” on HP Z640 Workstation PC.
  2. Following selection screen will be displayed.
  3. Now insert the RHEL 7.1 Workstation bootable media (DVD/Pen Drive) and select Boot Menu by “down” key and enter.
  4. Now select the media from where you want to boot the system. If it DVD, select Legacy- HP CDDVD W —— from the menu and enter.
  5. The system will restart and if above steps are done properly the system will boot from your selected media source.
  6. After booting of system the following menu will be displayed.

7. Select Install Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.1 in the boot menu and press Enter.
  1.  The Red Hat Enterprise Linux installer will be started and ask for language selection. In our case its English, so I have selected English as language and then click on Continue. The Installation Summary dialog will be displayed.

  1. The Installation Summary consists of 3 sections, viz Localization, Software and System.

  1. Under “Localization” section, select “Date & Time”, and select “Region-Asia” and “City-Kolkata” for Indian Standard Time, and click “Done” to go back to Installation Summary screen.

  1. In “Software” section, select the “Installation Source” option to select source of Linux installation. The media is Auto-detected by the system, click “Done” to go back to Installation Summary screen.

  1. In “Software” section, select the “Software Selection” option to select packages to be installed. On “Software Selection” screen, select “Development and Creative Workstation” on left pane and select ALL packages individually on right pane. Then click on “Done” to go back to “Installation Summary” screen.

  1. Under “System” section, Select the “Installation Destination”, double click on the selected disk, click on “Reclaim Space”; a new window is opened, click on delete all option and then on “Reclaim Space”, click “Done” to return to the “Installation Summary”.

  1. Under “System” section, Select the “Network and Hostname” option, and change the Hostname to “MyMachine” and click “Done” to return to the “Installation Summary” screen.

  1. Now click on “Begin Installation”. The installation will begin and “Configuration” screen will appear.

  1. Under “User Settings” section set “Root Password”. create a user in “User Creation” section with user name “MyMachine”.
